The AIOIC’s ABE Program specializes in working with people of all ages,
and all types of learning styles—including those who have not been in a classroom for a long time.
We understand how demanding life can be, which is why our program provides students a unique opportunity to create their own schedules as they work toward their
General Education Diploma (GED). This “study at your own pace” model gives students
access to licensed instructional staff for one-on-one tutoring, and to classes that cover the
core content areas of the GED Exam:
- Reading Comprehension
- Writing / Language Arts
- Social Studies
Our instructors are here to help you succeed.
Instructors provide refresher courses to help students prepare for transition into higher education or for entrance into a new career pathway. In addition, we have a team of volunteers who bring extensive professional experience from the worlds of education and business who offer additional academic support to our enrolled participants. Students have unfettered access to all learning curricula including textbooks, workbooks, and software and to ensure competency on the new Minnesota GED exam, our ABE program now includes keyboarding lessons designed to improve the typing skills for all participants.
At the conclusion of the Takoda ABE program, participants will be well prepared to pass the final GED exam, have transition plans in place for enrollment in higher education, or direct career placement. Students who complete our program not only possess multiple transferable skills but, they will have confidence to tackle the next challenge.
ABE Bridging Options
The AIOIC ABE program also offers additional academic and career training for those adult students that already have their high school diploma or GED but are in need of brushing up on their skill sets in order to enroll into a post-secondary or college program. Bridging courses involve college preparation in mathematics, literacy, composition, and student preparation for college (note taking techniques, effective study habits for college, etc.). In addition, short-term career contextualized trainings are also available for ABE Bridging students intent on transitioning directly into employment. Finally, ABE Bridging students are also eligible for co-enrollment directly in our accredited Takoda Institute of Higher Education at no cost as a means of seamlessly transitioning into a post-secondary training pathway and career
